Top Things To Do In Scotland

There are a lot of things to do in Scotland for solo travelers and those travelling in a group. The country is filled with magnificent highlands that will give you a sense of wonderment. The land of Kilts, Bag pipes and a fondness for the word “a wee bit o”; these are all interesting aspects of the beautiful of country of Scotland. There are a couple of things to keep in mind if you are planning a visit to Scotland. The country is notorious for rain, so be sure to pack a raincoat or a packer just in case. Also beware of the Scottish midges; tiny insects that travel in swarms and notorious for attacking your face, mouth, eyes and any exposed skin. It is important to pack insect repellent for repelling insects. Things To Do In Scotland

However, do not be dismayed. Scotland is beautiful all year round and worth the visit. So here are a couple of things to do in Scotland when you visit.

Top Things to do in Scotland

Take a road trip

This is a must do. If you visit the two major cities in Scotland, Edinburg and Glasgow, take a road trip outside these cities as well. Make sure you have a camera handy as you take in the majestic sights. The highlands are magnificent with amazing landscapes and mountains. The Isles are also great for visiting various distilleries.  While taking a road trip, you are free to visit farms and roam the lands without feeling like you are intruding as Scottish people are notoriously friendly.

Remember to keep to the left as you drive as it’s legal to only drive on the left in Scotland. You are unlikely to have communication problems as most people speak and interact in English.

Visit Edinburg

Your beautiful vacation should begin with you visiting the capital city of Scotland, Edinburg. There is a lot do here: go shopping, explore history, visit the distilleries, drink some whiskey and eat all the local delicacies. You can also stop by the Edinburg castle which plays a huge role in Scotland’s history. Built over 800 years ago and situated on Castle Rock, the castle was once the Royal residence of Scotland’s royal family. The castle is a national treasure and was once a military base in Scotland. Now, the Castle is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Scotland

You can also visit the city during one of the numerous festivals held in Edinburg.

Isle of Skye

This beautiful attraction is a must do in Scotland. You will find tall, edgy mountains, enthralling coastlines, waterfalls, and an amazing castle that is the subject of fairy tales. The Isle of Skye is littered with a series of fairy pools that are prime swimming spots. Take walks along the various farmlands you will find around and remember to take a moment to take it all in.

Captain’s Galley

I didn’t get the chance to see this attraction but the writers at lonely planet seem to think it’s a great place to sample delicious sea food. Located by Scrabster ferry, enjoy your choice of seafood carefully selected by the chef. Scotland is famous for very flavorful food so trying new dishes must be on your list of things to do in Scotland

Visit the distilleries all over the country

Scotland is notorious for having many whiskey distilleries as Scottish whiskey is the nation’s popular export. You can decide to visit by yourself or sign up for a tour. However, you will find that not all Scots drink whiskey and some will rather drink gin or beer.

Have fun exploring Scotland.

What To Know Before Visiting Macau

China’s ancient customs, huge landscapes, friendly people and amazing attractions are some of the top reasons why this fantastic country is a great place to visit. If you are looking to narrow down your options, visiting Macau, a former Portuguese colony located some distance from Hong Kong is a top Chinese destination. There are a plethora of reasons why Macau is becoming popular among tourists and it’s not just because it has been dubbed the “Vegas of China”.

In this post, we will review some fun reasons why you should consider visiting Macau for your next vacation.

What to know before Visiting Macau

A strange mix of cultures

Some have referred to Macau as a cultural melting point or to be more succinct, a city of blended cultures. Formerly a Portuguese colony, you will feel like you are experiencing two cultures at the same time. You will see street signs in Portuguese but people thronging around you speaking Cantonese. The advertisements are also in Portuguese. However, an impressive number of the locals speak English as well, so you are bound to cope. See ancient Chinese temples and European influenced pieces of architecture. Visiting Macau

Come on! It’s the Vegas of China

This is not an understatement. In a country known for its ancient customs and traditions and sometimes eclectic lifestyle, in Macau you will find huge casinos, spectacular hotels, lights, and all the thrills you are looking for when hoping for a Vegas experience. Macau is actually regarded as the largest gambling city in the world.

The city can seem congested

This depends on what you are used to. Macau just covers 11 square miles with a population density of over 500,000 people and over 30 million visitors annually. Just be sure to make the most of your trip by making acquaintances and perhaps lifelong friends.

Lots to do and see

Besides gambling, prepare to enjoy all that a typical vacation offers. Macau also has the most gorgeous beaches where you can lounge all day and get that desired sun tan. You can head on over to the city’s largest beach called Hac Sa beach with its famous black sand. Find other attractions including the popular Macau Cathedral, see the dancing waters at the city of dreams hotel, ancient temples, and the ruins of St, Paul. Also visit the zoos, museums, parks, gardens and restaurants.

Best way to see Macau

Car rentals are not recommended and not common in Macau. The best way to get around Macau is by using the free shuttle buses offered by some hotels or by using taxis. If you can’t afford to stay in any of the big hotels, just ensure you book a small hotel close to the big ones that offer free shuttle buses. This way, you can walk to the bigger hotels and board their shuttle buses. Don’t worry; no one will stop you from using the free shuttle services.

Are you convinced yet? We wish you a grand stay in Macau.

What To Know Before Visiting Hawaii

Hawaii is the perfect holiday destination for a tropical celebration. If you are looking for relaxing beaches and a holiday with tons of activities lined up, you should consider visiting Hawaii. There is a lot more to do and places to see in Hawaii. Visit the volcanoes located at the National park in Hawaii or go see various aquatic wildlife at Hanuma Bay. For maximum fun, you can go island hopping by visiting the various Islands in Hawaii and have a taste of what each Island offers.

Are you thinking coconut drinks, beautiful resorts, and sunny beaches yet? Then you are ready for your Hawaiian adventure. See below a couple of things to know before visiting Hawaii:

What to Know Before Visiting Hawaii

Main Islands in Hawaii

There are six main islands in Hawaii and they are as follows: Oahu, Kauai, Lanai, Maui, Hawaii or the Big Island, and Molokai. They are also the most frequented and each of them offers something unique to visitors. These islands are not very close to each other with the exception of Lanai that is quite close to Maui. Visiting Hawaii

Opt for car rentals

You should know that enjoying all the amazing adventures in Hawaii will be greatly facilitated if you have a car at your disposal. With car rentals in Hawaii, you have the independence to visit all the attractions you want to see without paying exorbitant taxi fares. Also, Oahu is the only island with good public transportation network. It will be wise to rent a car while visiting the other 5 main islands.

Best time to visit

This really depends on your preference. Hawaii has just 2 seasons: wet and dry seasons. If you do not mind the rain, November – April is a great time to visit. There are fewer tourists on the island and you can avoid long lines at tourist’s attractions. May – September/October is the Island’s dry season. This is great time to visit if you want to avoid the rains and get some sun.

How to go Island Hopping

You will have to use the Island’s airplanes to go Island hopping. I wish I had better news but visiting all the main islands can be quite expensive and for every leg, you will have to buy a fresh ticket to a new Island. There used to be an option to use a ferry but I learned this option has been discontinued.

The cost of visiting Hawaii

If you are hoping for a budget friendly holiday, I don’t think Hawaii is the right choice for you. Tourism is a means of livelihood for most of the locals who do not mind inflating the prices of items. However, you can save money on cost of accommodation, places you eat, and means of transportation. Instead of staying in hotels, resorts or condos, you can opt for booking an Airbnb, hostels or campsites. Eating in restaurants is not cheap; you can try eating cereal in the morning, street food in the afternoon and fruits at night. Taxis are quite expensive in Hawaii. You can rent a small car or try a bike in certain areas.  Look for free tourist attractions to visit as well. These tips can help you save some money.

Top Things to Know before visiting St Lucia

Rent a car

Renting a car from one of the top local car rental companies is a great way to go. If you have a car at your disposal, you will be free to do whatever you want and at the time you feel like. You have the independence to visit all the attractions you want to see without paying exorbitant taxi fares. However, it is advisable to have a driver pick you up from the airport with the rental car and then leave the car with you. This way you can relax on the first day while watching how the locals drive. Before visiting St Lucia, you should know people drive on the left side of the road. You can also arrange to be picked up from the airport and then rent a car subsequently.

Loads of beaches and all public

As a Caribbean Island, St Lucia has loads of beaches and wonderful relaxation spots. Visit popular beach spots like Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island. While at Pigeon Island, rent a bike and do some exploring, you can also hike the trails to the top where you will be able to see the island in all its glory. Don’t expect to have the beaches to yourself as no one is restricted from lounging at the beach. Resort beaches are no exception.

Prepare to be swarmed by vendors

Be prepared to see loads of food vendors, street vendors selling all kinds of items, and loads of restaurants. You will be spoiled for choice, so take your time deciding what to buy. In areas like Rodney Bay, the restaurants can be quite pricy so don’t be afraid to eat street food.

Use your Mosquito spray

This is a must or you will be bitten by Mosquitoes. Just rub insect repellent all over you before beginning your Caribbean adventure. You do not want to have to run back to your lodgings to get some respite from insect bites.

U.S dollars are accepted almost everywhere

You might have some trouble while using the ATM as many have reported that transactions via the ATMs don’t go through often. It is important to bring enough cash for the trip. You can decide to exchange your U.S dollars for Eastern Caribbean dollars (St Lucia’s official currency).
